Photography Holiday in Sri Lanka
Wildlife and Seascapes

Take amazing photographs of Sri Lanka on this 12-day private tour of Sri Lanka. We've designed this trip in a way you can take different types/themes of photos. This trip is 'Tell Tale light', you'll have great guides but not quite have the one-on-one local experiences you could have on some of our other itineraries.

Saturday Fly from the UK to Colombo with a choice of airports including London, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Sunday: Arrive at Colombo airport and private transfer to boutique hotel. Settle in and enjoy the pool. In the late afternoon, you can take a tuk tuk to Colombo's famous Galle Face Green for spectacular sunset pictures. We recommend following this up with having dinner out in Colombo. You can discover why Sri Lanka came 7th in Condé Nast Traveller’s Readers’ Choice Awards of 2025.

Monday: Time to head off. From today, you'll be driven to Tissamaharama, near Yala National Park. When you get there, you'll settle into a small resort which will be your base for the next few days. In the late afternoon, you'll explore the area, including the large Tissa Wewa lake, this is an artificial lake part of an irrigation system dating back to the 3rd century BC, and surrounded by majestic trees with colourful tropical birds flitting in and out of them. This evening, along with others in this area, you have the option of going out for a local dinner.

Tuesday: Time to start snapping some animals! A very early start and then a day with a wildlife guide in Yala National Park. You'll definitely see deer, peacocks, crocodiles and more, though we usually see wild elephants and often leopards too. This will be a full day though you will have time for a picnic lunch and a walk on the beach which fringes the park.

Wednesday: Another early start to visit Bundala, a wetlands teeming with birds, one of our favourites in Sri Lanka. You'll explore the park with a wildlife guide for several hours. You'll then head back to your resort and have the afternoon free to relax by the pool. This evening, you will be driven to the atmospheric Kataragama, a town which attracts people from all of Sri Lanka's faiths (Buddhist, Hindu, Christian and Muslim) and you may see elephants in one of their many jobs (they are still workers in Sri Lanka, not just tourist attractions).

Thursday: Leisurely morning. Then you'll be driven to Sinharaja rainforest, the last virgin rainforest in Sri Lanka and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Settle in at a birders' lodge and have wander around to look for birds at dusk.

Friday: A chance to take photos of colourful birds with a day in Sinharaja rainforest with a local birdwatching guide.

Saturday: Pack up and drive to a resort in Bentota on Sri Lanka's winding west coast. Afternoon at leisure to enjoy the pool or take a walk along the beach to take stunning seascapes.

Sunday: A very early start. You'll be taken to Beruwala in time to see the brightly-coloured fishing boats being unloaded this morning. The harbour is home to more than 600 boats and catches include shark! Then you'll visit Kechimalai Mosque, one of the oldest Islamic mosques in Sri Lanka. Beruwala is probably where the Arab traders who introduced Islam to Sri Lanka first landed. Then it's onto historic Galle, a UNESCO World Heritage site and considered the best remaining fortified city built by Europeans (in this case Dutch) in Asia. Sunsets taken from the ramparts are particularly lovely.

Monday: Day at leisure.

Tuesday: Day at leisure.

Wednesday: Transfer to Colombo airport. Fly back to the UK. Arrival will be same day or next day depending on flight times,

This 12-day tour usually costs £1,900pp including flights to Colombo, accommodation, sightseeing and other activities/excursions, guides, some meals and transport in private comfortable cars. Please allow around £60 per person for entrance fees.
