Gourmet Holiday in Thailand
Taste of Thailand

Discover the real food of Thailand on this gourmet adventure which also has some classic sightseeing, meeting local people and relaxing too! A perfect week's holiday in Thailand if you like food as it includes a Thai cooking class in each of the three areas you visit.

Your holiday starts on a Saturday night (though we can be flexible to some degree) with a direct overnight flight and you'll arrive back at 7pm on the Sunday of the weekend afterwards. (It is also possible to book the trip without flights in which case your tour starts on Day 2 in Bangkok). It is a private tour for two people travelling together. Vegetarians can be accommodated.

You'll have a couple of days staying in a boutique hotel in Bangkok where as well as guided sightseeing, you will have an introductory lesson at a professional cookery school to learn some core skills. Then you'll move onto onto a village in the Central Plains where you can experience traditional Thai living in a beautiful wooden house by a canal. Then you'll take the sleeper train through the countryside to northern Thailand. Here you will stay at a luxury private home, but more importantly with a gracious hostess. Whilst staying here, you will visit an organic farm and learn about northern cooking which is influenced by the hilltribes. You will also do some sightseeing and relaxing by the pool, so this is a great week's holiday in Thailand. If you can go away for longer, you can spend some time at a beach resort at the end, we're happy to organise a boutique beach stay for you, or we can just change your return flight date for you to make your arrangements. It is also to book this tour without flights.

Day 1: (typically Saturday) Overnight flight from Heathrow to Bangkok with Eva Air or Thai Airways.

Day 2: One of our drivers will meet you at Bangkok airport in the afternoon and take you to a boutique inn in Bangkok's centre, a converted old mansion. Settle in and have a dip in the pool. Evening at leisure to walk to a nearby restaurant, or take the 'Sky Train' though we can arrange a driver if you wish.

Day 3: Free morning. In the afternoon, you will have a cookery lesson at the Blue Elephant Cookery School and eat your efforts. Evening at leisure.

Day 4: One of our expert guides will pick you up and take you on a boat trip along Bangkok's Chao Phraya River. You will also visit the famous Grand Palace set in grand ceremonial gardens and Temple of the Emerald Buddha.

Then it's time to leave Bangkok, your driver will take you to the Central Plains where you will arrive at a canal-side village. You'll explore the local area by boat then have dinner and stay overnight at the village headman's traditional Thai house, built of teak.

Day 5: Up early! The village headman's wife will take you the local market to pick up the freshest vegetables of the day before she shows you how to make some of her secret family recipes which you will have for lunch. Later on in the afternoon, you'll be taken to the train station in the nearby town of Ayutthaya to take an overnight sleeper train north to Chiang Mai.

Day 6: You will be met at Chiang Mai train station this morning and be whisked away to a luxury private home in the countryside outside the city. Settle in at leisure and then relax by the pool. We've even arranged a Thai massage in the garden. In the late afternoon, your hostess will take you for a walk around the local area and village nearby.

Day 7: Discover how to make northern Thai food using the freshest of ingredients, today you'll visit an organic farm and pick your own before having a northern-style Thai cookery lesson. You'll have time to relax by the pool in the late afternoon. In the evening, a driver will take you into the centre of Chiang Mai so you can have a look around the bustling night bazaar or have dinner at a riverside restaurant.

Day 8: Day at leisure. This evening, a farewell dinner, you are welcome to help cook!

Day 9: (Sunday) After breakfast, your driver will take you to Chiang Mai airport where you will take a short connecting flight to Bangkok and connect to the international flight to the UK. You'll arrive at London Heathrow approximately 7pm UK time (same day).

This private tour costs £1,500* per person based on two people sharing a private tour. It includes direct flights from Heathrow with Thai Airways or Eva Air, accommodation, cooking lessons, other activities and excursions, most meals and ground transport including chauffeur-driven cars and an overnight train.
